What happened to the village

Pathahewaheta is a hillside village near Talatuoya in Sri Lanka’s central highlands, home to an estimated 60,000 people across 19,000 households. Most families rely on farming, small businesses, and daily wage work.

When the cyclone hit, heavy rains triggered more than 110 landslides. Homes, roads, schools, shops, and farmland were destroyed in a single night. Between 3,000 and 5,000 houses were damaged, and more than 1,000 families are now homeless.

At least 50 people have lost their lives. Many survivors are staying in government safe houses or with relatives, often without stable access to electricity, clean water, or essential supplies.

Donations are processed securely in USD via Stripe. Funds are transferred to the Thambapanniye API Charity Trust in Sri Lanka to support the village recovery.

Why this fund is needed

Government agencies and local authorities have already started providing support, but the scale of destruction is far beyond what they can cover quickly. Many families are left waiting for repairs that may take months or longer without additional help.

This village fund is designed to move faster and more directly. It connects those who want to help with those who are living through the disaster, through a transparent and coordinated relief effort led by trusted local partners.

If you have the capacity to help, your support can turn fear and uncertainty into stability and hope.
