How your donation is used
Every contribution has a clear purpose. The Pathahewaheta Village Cyclone Relief Fund supports both immediate survival needs and long-term rebuilding through a single general village fund.
Funding priorities
The first priority is to make sure families have enough to survive day to day while rebuilding begins.
- Emergency food kits for displaced families
- Clean drinking water and water containers
- Temporary shelter materials and basic bedding
- Clothing, blankets, and essential household items
- Hygiene and sanitary supplies, including for women and children
- Basic medicine and support for vulnerable residents
The second priority is to help families rebuild safe, stable homes where they can live without fear of walls collapsing or roofs failing in future storms.
- Materials and labor to repair partially damaged homes
- Support to rebuild fully destroyed houses for the most affected families
- Structural reinforcement in high-risk areas where possible
Estimated cost: LKR 110 million for repairs and LKR 200 million for rebuilding fully destroyed homes.
Critical infrastructure and community buildings
Without functioning infrastructure, a village cannot fully recover. Roads, bridges, electricity, and water systems are essential for safety, school access, medical access, and daily life.
- Clearing and repairing blocked and damaged roads
- Repairing or replacing damaged bridges and access paths
- Repairing electricity lines and basic lighting in key areas
- Restoring and securing water lines and supply systems
Estimated cost: LKR 400 million for infrastructure repairs.
Temples, community centers, and schools are the heart of village life. Rebuilding them helps restore normal routines, learning environments, and safe spaces for the community to gather and heal.
- Repairing damaged temples and community centers
- Restoring school and preschool buildings
- Basic furniture and equipment for essential community services
Estimated cost: LKR 250 million for community building repairs.
Tools, equipment, and labor
Rebuilding thousands of homes and public spaces requires more than money. It needs tools, equipment, and skilled hands.
- Construction tools and safety equipment
- Transport and logistics costs for materials
- Skilled labor support where the community cannot do the work alone
Estimated cost: LKR 230 million for tools, materials, and labor.
General village relief fund
All donations to this campaign are pooled into a single general village relief fund. This enables the coordination team to respond to the most urgent needs first, while still working toward long-term rebuilding.
At this stage, donations are not earmarked for individual families. Instead, they are allocated based on verified damage assessments and priority needs at the village level.
The total estimated need for the village is around LKR 1,200,000,000.
